Woman and I might add men are always onthe quest for a more youthful appearance. Many have turned toBotox® . What we know for certain is the Botox® anti-aging treatmentworks. In 2003 in the US 8.3 million cosmetic procedures wheredone. Of that 8.3 million 78% of the procedures did not involvesurgery such as injectables to ease wrinkles. Botox® ® is the trade name for botulinum toxin A.What Botox®does is “paralyze muscles and soft tissue fillers” which arederived from natural collagen and restore plumpness. OriginallyBotox® was used to treat uncontrollable blinking. Doctors soondiscovered the patients being treated for blinking wereobtaining a more youthful appearance – thus the future of Botox®took a turn down the cosmetic road.
The protein compound of Botox® actually causes botulism whichcan result in paralysis. When it is injected into the skin themuscle stops contracting it causes the skin to relax and thewrinkle to soften. Botox® works best on individuals who havedeep set highly visible wrinkles. It is mostly used on theforehead, between the eyes, and on crow feet. It takes 3-5 daysafter the injection for the effects to occur which last 3-4months. If you arethinking about a Botox® treatment make certain your Doctor usesFDA approved Botox® and only get treatments form a licensedDoctor. Dermatologists
or Plastic Surgeons are the most expertin administering Botox® so if either of these are an option Iwould recommend taking that route. Get a few recommendations fordoctors and check each one out thoroughly. Check if they areboard certified, get references if at all possible, schedule anappointment for a consultation which will give you a betterindication if you are comfortable with your choice. Ask yourdoctor to show you before and after pictures of procedures hehas done. Some of the potential problems that can occur • Some peopleexperience a pinching or burning sensation when the needleenters the skin. Ask your doctor for a numbing cream prior toyour treatment • Minor post treatment headache may occur • Redblotching can occur for around 15 -30 min. Wait to leave thedoctors office until redness fades. • Droopy eyelid results whenthere is seepage of Botox® into the muscle that keeps the eyeopen. It can occur anywhere from immediately to two weeks afterthe injection. • Some may experience an expressionless face. Usea lower dose of Botox® next treatment BOTOX® ® has been approved as an anti-wrinkle remedy by theAmerican Food and Drug Administration (AFD). Since this is apublic and federally funded institution, they are primarilyconcerned with public safety one would assume they would notapprove BOTOX® ® for general public usage without conducting allthe sufficient and necessary tests to determine whether or notit is safe.
