Can We Talk About Arthritis ?
by Ed Goon
In a study performed by the Arthritis Foundation, it has been found that nearly 300,000 Children in the United States have Arthritis, whereas about 8.4 Million young adults (Ages 18-44) have arthritis, and there are millions of other children and young Americans who are at risk of developing Arthritis.
There are two types of arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease
in which the joint lining becomes inflamed as part of the body's immune system activity. Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most serious and disabling types of arthritis. This type of arthritis usually affects women. - Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease in which cartilage that covers the end of bones in the joint deteriorates, causing pain and loss of movement when bones start to rub together. This is the most common form of arthritis.
The impact that Arthritis can have on a young childs life raises some big concerns. Learning to cope with the arthritis is one of the major problems. Not only is Arthritis a problem in Young people, it is a problem for everyone.
In a recent study done by the Arthritis Foundation, there are many other things to pay attention to: - About 46 million people have been diagnosed with some form of Arthritis. - The country spends about $128 Billion annually, with $81 billion of it going into direct medical costs. - About 9,500 people died of Arthritis in the years of 2003-2004 - If there is not a way found to prevent this disease, about 67 million people (or about 25% of the American population) will have arthritis. - Of the people diagnosed arthritis, about 50% of them are forced to stop working within 10 years of the diagnosis.
Arthritis is a Chronic, painful, and disabling disease. Early diagnosis is the most critical part to help young children. Although everyone hopes for a cure, there is no cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis.
There are many different types of Medications that can help with Arthritis. There are... -NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) and COX-2 (COX stands for cyclooxygenase) Selective inhibitors. In most cases, one of the NSAIDs is included in the medication regimen for arthritis patient. Some COX-2 inhibitors are: - Celebrex - Vioxx - Bextra
Most medications do no more than hide the symptoms of the disease. When you cover the symptoms, the base problem remains, but you feel better so you go right on doing more damage to the joints. Eventually you need to up the medication so you can continue to function! Do you see a pattern developing?
My father has had arthritis in his neck and shoulders for years. It had progressed to the point he had to swivel at the hip to turn his head. Being a bullheaded old man, he refused to take medication. He has used natural supplements and Omega 3 to relieve his pain and allow him to function almost without pain! Research what he and others have done and perhaps you can take control of your own health!
