What should I do if I take other medications while on Ortho Evra?
Certain drugs may interact with Ortho Evra making them less effective in preventing pregnancy and possibly cause harmful side effects. Known drugs that should be avoided include:
-Drugs to treat epilepsy including carbamazepine, phenytoin, and topiramate
-Certain drugs used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS
-Rifampin

Who should not use the Ortho Evra birth control patch?
You should not use Ortho Evra if you have any of the following:
-Blood clots in the legs, lungs, or eyes
-History of heart attack or stroke
-Disease of heart valves with complications
-Breast cancer
-Cancer of the lining of the vagina, uterus, or cervix
-Diabetes
-Hepatitis
-Jaundice during pregnancy or during previous use of hormonal birth control
-Liver tumor
-High blood pressure
-An allergic reaction to Ortho Evra
Can I use the Ortho Evra patch even though I have sensitive skin?
If you have sensitive skin, you should consult with your healthcare professional prior to using Ortho Evra. In general, avoid placing the Ortho Evra patch on skin that is irritated, red, or cut. If irritation develops during use, the Ortho Evra patch can be removed and a new patch may be applied to a new location.
Can lotions affect the Ortho Evra birth control patch?
Always apply the patch to dry, clean skin. Do not use lotions, creams, oils, or powder on skin where you are going to put the Ortho Evra patch or near a patch that you are already wearing. These products may cause the patch to loose its effectiveness and fall off.
What are some of the common side effects of Ortho Evra?
In clinical trials, the most frequent adverse side effects to women using Ortho Evra included nausea, vomiting, application site reaction, breast symptoms, headache, and emotional distress.
More serious side effects of stroke, heart attack, blood clots, and death have not shown up in Ortho Evra clinical trials, but have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) several times since being on the market.
Where can I wear the Ortho Evra birth control patch?
You can wear Ortho Evra on your upper outer arm, upper torso (except breasts), abdomen, or buttock. The patch should not be worn on any other areas of the body.
