Packaging Speed, Efficiency And Accuracy Accelerated With Medication Staging System
Denver, CO (ContentDesk) September 8, 2005 -- Swisslog, a leader in healthcare logistics automation, offers a medication staging carousel called AutoBox that enhances the efficiency and speed of its automated pharmacy packaging system for hospitals, resulting in improved utilization of pharmacy personnel. AutoBox is a component of Swisslog's PillPick® system, a complete automated packaging, storage, and dispensing solution for transforming bulk stock into bar coded, unit-dose medications in the hospital pharmacy. The PillPick process begins when bulk solid medications are prepared for packaging. Tablets and capsules are placed inside canisters that are encoded with a radio-frequency (RF) tag containing medication-specific information. These bar coded, tamper-resistant canisters are then placed by the operator into AutoBox, which stages up to 12 canisters in preparation for bar-code unit-dose packaging. AutoBox automatically transfers the canister into the packager and when packaging is completed, the canister is automatically transferred and discharged from the unit. The next canister is automatically inserted and the process is repeated.AutoBox improves the throughput of PillPick's packaging process. No human intervention is required, saving valuable pharmacy staff time.
