Laparoscopic Procedure In Hernia Cases
By Groshan Fabiola
There are weak ares in everybody' s abdomen walls. When there is pressure put on these weak spots, hernia can develop. It does not matter what the age or the sex, everyone can develop a hernia at some point in their lives. However, men are more at risk of developing a hernia than women. Furthermore, some people are born with weaker areas in their abdomen, thus making them more likely to develop a hernia. Obesity, the loss of weight or pregnancy are also factors that may increase the risk of a hernia. The places where you have incisions from prior surgeries are also more sensitive to pressure and more likely to cause a hernia.

A case of hernia can not be treated with medication or other natural remedies. All that is do be done in a hernia cases is to have surgery. There are two procedures that are used to repair hernia: open hernia and laparoscopic repair. A doctor must do a thorough examination of the hernia patient, before advising him/ her to have the laparoscopic hernia surgery. Not all hernia patients are advised to take this option, because laparoscopy is not the best solution for all hernia cases. People who have had abdominal before or have other medical problems should not have laparoscopic repair. Their other option is open hernia procedure.

If you have been examined by a surgeon and you are give the ok for the laparoscopic hernia procedure, here is what will happen:
- you may be given a local or general anaesthesia, depending on the hernia state;
- a small incision will be

then made right under your umbilical area;
- through that incision the doctor will insert a tube, that will be used to insert other instruments that are needed to repair the hernia;
- if there is the case, a patch will also be used to reinforce the abdomen walls;
- after stitching the hole that the hernia has made, the doctor will also stitch the first incision;
This hernia procedure does not take more than half an hour and its period of healing is rather small.

After no more than three hours after the hernia repair procedure, if everything is in order, you will be sent to your home. The next day or two after the hernia surgery, will might feel some pain, but a very mild one. In a small amount of time after the hernia surgery, you will be able to get back to your normal activities. Keep in mind though, that it is best for you to see a doctor about two weeks after the hernia repair procedure, as a measure of precaution.
