Soya-based Foods & Breast Cancer By Anonymous, Thu Dec 8th
At least one-third of women at high risk for breast cancerregularly consume soy-based foods, but this may not be a goodidea, researchers say. While the benefits of soy consumption forcardiovascular health have been confirmed, there is no evidencethat soy foods improve breast health, particularly in non-Asianwomen, Dr Carolyn Y. Fang of the Fox Chance Cancer Centre inCheltenham, Pennsylvania, and colleagues note. In fact, they point out in an article in the Journal of theAmerican Dietetic Association, there is some evidence that highsoy consumption
could actually increase risk amongUS women. "Given that high levels of soy intake might increasebreast cancer risk, our findings highlight the need for clear, consistent messages regarding the health benefits or risks ofconsuming soy foods, particularly in the context of cancerrisk," said Fang and her team.
