Black Model Auctions Herself For Breast Cancer
(ContentDesk) June 7, 2005 -- To celebrate month, a professional model decided to give back the best way she can -- auction a date with herself to charity. Sun Karma, a professional model out of Virginia, decided to give one lucky winner a special dinner and a movie evening with her. She will be giving 60% of the profits to the foundation in support of month. This auction was originally listed on EBAY..but has been taken private for several reasons. A minimum of 85 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to research and awareness programs.In 2005, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be approximately 211,240 new cases of invasive in women in the United States, and 1,690 in men. An estimated 40,410 women and 460 men will die from the disease. According to the National Cancer Institute, accounts for about 15 percent of all cancer-related deaths in women in the nation. The BCRF, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, was established in September 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, following a successful $18 million fundraising effort to build a comprehensive center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City. To date, the Foundation has raised $100 million to support outstanding research nationwide. For 2004--2005, BCRF has awarded grants of over $18 million
